If providing healthy living and outdoor education opportunities for low-income Boston students resonates with you, we encourage you to apply and “Run like Hale!” Our team’s fundraising efforts support two programs focused on Boston Public Schools (BPS) students: Hale Outdoor Learning Adventures (HOLA) and Intrepid Academy.

HOLA campers are part of the 5th Quarter of Learning initiative, a public-private partnership that provides summer learning opportunities to Boston students. HOLA seeks to prevent summer learning loss, encourage academic gains and healthy physical activity, and develop social-emotional skills during the summer months so students are ready to begin the next grade in the fall.

Hale’s newest initiative, Intrepid Academy, will open in January 2018. This outdoor semester school will break down the walls of conventional schools, get BPS juniors outside, and enable them to earn traditional course credits through a nontraditional, active educational experience.

Experiences like HOLA and Intrepid Academy are often limited to more affluent populations. At Hale, we are closing the opportunity gap by working with students who otherwise may never have access to such programs. We know that time actively spent outdoors leads to mental stimulation, has numerous health benefits, and is paramount for development.

We hope you’ll join us in supporting this important work, and will serve as a role model for Boston’s youth by leading an active, healthy lifestyle.
