Unfortunately, Boston Marathon bib numbers and entry fees cannot be refunded. Regrettably, we do not allow deferment of race entry to another year. Runner bib numbers cannot be transferred to another participant, and you may not give your number to someone else. The Boston Marathon is a top-level sporting competition, and the B.A.A. seeks to uphold the integrity of both its entrants list and field and the results and awards reports and rankings.

Refunds or deferments of bib numbers for the Boston Marathon will not be granted for any reason, including injury, pregnancy, military exercise or deployment, and family emergencies. We regret that we cannot make exceptions.

For active duty military deployments to war zones, deferment of qualifying times will be honored for a later race. However, there will be no refund or deferment of bib numbers or entry fee. The B.A.A. appreciates the understanding from all who ask this question of the race organization, and we appreciate the cooperation in upholding the policies that are in place.

A:

Stop for assistance and direction at one of the medical assistance stations on the course, provided by the B.A.A. Sweep buses are available to pick up runners who are unable to finish. Official participants have three hours (3:00:00) net time to complete the race. Only participants who complete the race within this allotted time will be considered official finishers. Roads and paths along the route will begin to re-open to traffic prior to the conclusion of timing and scoring, and those remaining on the course will be directed off the roadways and on to walkways by local police.

Stop for assistance and direction at one of the 26 Red Cross aid stations along the course. Sweep buses pick up runners at every Red Cross station with drop-off at the finish area medical tent. Aid stations along the course close at staggered times during the day. Finish area facilities officially close six hours after the last runner crosses the start line in Hopkinton. (About 6:00 p.m.)

We are aware that some entrants may not receive their Boston Marathon Participant Guide, Runner Passport, or Number Pick-up Card in the mail before departing for Boston. If you do not receive your participant mailing in time for the Boston Marathon, please bring a government issued photo ID to the Solutions Center in the bib number pick-up area of the John Hancock Sports & Fitness Expo. Once there, volunteers and members of our runner services team will issue you a replacement Number Pick-up Card. Volunteers will also direct you to where you can pick up your bib number.

Registration for the Boston Marathon typically begins in the Fall prior to the race. We cannot predict how quickly registration will fill, but once it does, we are no longer able to accept registrations. The date that we close registration, therefore, becomes the deadline for qualifying.

A:

Bring a government issued photo I.D. to the card replacement desk in the Number Pick-up area, and we will issue a new card. A Number Pick-up Card must be presented in order to receive your number.

For application into the Boston Marathon, applicants must provide the name and date of the Marathon at which they qualified, and their official finishing time. The B.A.A. will verify all qualifying times before granting acceptance into the race.

A:

Boston Marathon confirmation postcards were mailed out via USPS in late October. It may take up to several weeks for international postcards to arrive. Please note that your confirmation postcard is simply an additional notification of your acceptance into the Boston Marathon, and you do not need to bring it with you to claim your bib number on race weekend.

Bring a government issued photo I.D. to the registration area on race day, and we will issue a new number. We will cancel your previous number, and void the timing device so that no one can misrepresent you.
